Remote Controlled Moon Dozer video
Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 5:34PM This informal education hands-on activity was featured as a side-line exhibit at the Great Moonbuggy Race in 2005 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama.
The main goal was to show students the concept of remote operation, and how it was possible crew members would have to operate robots and crawlers from a different location such as the Moon. Here, the container the radio-controlled toy is burying with simulated moon dirt could be a variety of facilities including power generators or habitats. The "regolith" as the dirt is technically named provides an excellent barrier for the dangerous space radiation that rains down on the surface of the Moon.
